Cool at first, quickly becomes a chore when your target score is like 300k or whatever. Again while it all looks really cool, I’m kinda getting a massive style over substance vibe gameplay wise. It’s like there’s always something in the way whenever i try to pull off the new barrel roll mechanic (which I’m honestly not fond of at all). It’s like everything is too big, and the AI’s all hang out really close together, making the races seem overcrowded or something I dunno. Everything feels so stiff, there’s too much emphasis on this sideshift technique to get round sharp bends - which took me ages to figure out, and while the game is very nice looking, it’s almost too busy/chaotic. Everything i loved about the controls in the ps1 games (and especially 3) is totally gone. So, fast forward to about a week ago, and for a pretty good deal i decided to buy a fat PS3, as it can play both ps1 and ps2, and obviously ps3 games too so I decided to give HD/Fury a try. I could wax lyrical about that game for days, it’s almost like it was a game made especially for me - it’s just perfect, the way it handles, how nimble the craft are and how shockingly good it looks for a ps1 game, the music, the fun little ‘tactical’ things you can do with force walls, cloaks and reflectors, everything, even how cool and trippy the prototype tracks look, it’s just so good! I’ve obviously hardly played any videogames throughout my life, but out of those that i have played, on any system and in any genre, Wipeout 3 SE is easily my favourite all time game. Eventually picking up 3SE over the summer and coming to the natural conclusion that that’s hands down the best one. I’ve been playing them all through this covid crisis and absolutely loving them. Until about a year ago, when i saw a second hand PS2 slim for £20 in the window at a local CEX and my first thought was that I’d love to have a go again at those wipeout games, so i bought it and as soon as i got home bought the PS1 wipeout trilogy from ebay as a bundle - at the time not even knowing about the Special Edition of 3 at all. So, decades went by and i’d barely picked up a controller, let alone actually owned any console or gaming PC. So Wip3out totally passed me by back then and by the time the PS2 launched I’d completely lost interest in gaming and didn’t bother buying one (got into DJing and music production instead - largely influenced by the soundtracks of those first two Wipeout games it must be said). Buy WipEout on the PS Storeįirst off I’ll say that back in the 90’s I was a huge fan of Wipeout when they first came out, but by about ‘99-‘00 I’d started losing interest in gaming in general (I was 16-17 at the time so my interests had turned more toward getting drunk and trying to get laid). Onyx - Single track for Sony PSP game WipEout Pure. MELT - The long awaited debut album from CoLD SToRAGE. Slipstream - SPECIAL remixes and EXCLUSIVE bonus tracks that weren't on WipEout Slipstream - 64 bit digital re-mix / re-masters of my tracks from WipEout and WipEout 2097
